We are happy to report that the Walk Steady for Rock Steady fundraiser brought in $14,000 and had 130 walkers attend to show their support. All the donations and sponsorships will stay right here at our local gym as we help people living with Parkinson’s fight back! We could not have done this without the help and generosity of our community and all of the friends and family of our boxers. Parkinson’s is a formidable opponent, and the strength, determination, and courage these boxers and their families show daily is AMAZING!

Our FREE Weekday Walking Program begins Oct. 3 and runs every Monday– Friday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the City Gym until the end of March. Walking is one of the best exercises for all age groups and has many health benefits. If you can spare fifteen minutes daily for walking, it will help you maintain a healthy weight. But in many places, the weather is not favorable for many months, forcing people to remain indoors. That is why the Parks Department has decided to open the city gym FREE of charge to any adult who would like to get some exercise during the cold months. Participants can enter the glass door on the West side of the building and sign in on the wooden door each day they attend. If you are the last to leave the gym, please turn off the light in the southwest corner of the gym. Questions call 824-6069. 1 Mile = 20 laps

Free Toddler Time starts Oct. 4 and will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 – noon in the Bluffton City Gym.  This free drop-in program allows young children to play with others their age in a large open space. Balls will be made available in the storage closet at the East end of the gym when we hear the children arrive. Please note that this is not a staff-facilitated event, and parents are responsible for their children.  We will offer a special tour or activity on the first Thursday of each month. Please sign in on the wooden door each visit and turn off the gym lights if you are the last to leave.

Tot Time Fire Department Visit – Bring your small children to the City Gym on Thursday, October 6th at 11 a.m., and we will walk over together for the tour!  Kids will meet real firefighters, learn a fire safety lesson and sit inside the firetrucks.  This is a free drop-in event.

There is still time to turn in your child’s coloring pages for our contest that ends on Oct. 24.  Coloring pages were handed out at the area schools, and additional copies can be printed off the City Website or the Bluffton Parks Facebook Page.

It’s never too early to plan for Halloween, so we want to get the word out about our Free Autumn Adventure. Dress in your favorite costume and join us in the city gym from 5-6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31. Walk through the spooky decorations and collect yummy treats. If your business or club would like to hand out candy in the gym, call the park office at 824-6069 for tablespace.

Boo In Bluffton Downtown Trick or Treat hours are 5-6 p.m., and the outskirts of town will be from 6-7 p.m. If your business would like to participate by handing out candy at your location, contact Brenda at the mayor’s office at 824-1520.
