After months of preparation, the county began taking bids for the highway garage project on Thursday.

The project will be open for bids until 4 p.m. on Aug. 4, with hopes to finish the project before the end of the year.

The department is also continuing through its summer goals despite recent staffing and weather challenges. Highway Supervisor Shawn Bonar said his crews are about two weeks from finishing their chip and seal project.

Lastly, Bonar updated the commissioners on the department’s mechanic who was in a car accident. He said the mechanic is still in the ICU and both the department and family have set up fundraisers to help with costs.

Bonar has asked for the community to remember the injured mechanice in their prayers and thoughts.

Holliday also said construction on the jail is continuing to make strides, this week moving onto the video courtrooms and duct work.
