Norwell senior Ally Burtron’s dominant final season with the Lady Knights softball team earned her a spot in next week’s North South All-Star game next weekend at Indiana University.

Burtron leaves Norwell after not just an impressive senior campaign that earned her first team All-NE8 honors, but also a stellar career that has her name all over the school’s record book.

It’s safe to say that when Burtron came to the plate, she came to hit. This year she posted a .507 batting average, which was best on team and third overall in the record book for a season. In 82 plate appearances, she struck out one time all year. And in her 267 career plate appearances, she has only stuck out 17 times. She also only walked just five times.

She was a producer at the plate as well. Her 38 RBIs in her final season ranked best on team and third overall in the record book for a season. She also hit 10 doubles (first on the team, fifth overall), four triples (second on the team, second overall) and five home runs (second on the team, fifth overall).

She also posted an on-base percentage of .524 (first on the team, eighth overall) and a slugging percentage of .946 (first on the team, third overall).

“I say this every year about Ally, but I’m going to say it again. These are numbers you expect to see from a speedy left handed slapper,” Norwell coach Herb Bergman said. “But she is not fast; she only has 16 career stolen bases. She is not a slapper. She is a right handed hitter.”

Overall, Burtron holds five career individual offensive records at Norwell and ranks very high in several single-season categories as well. Perhaps the most impressive part of this accomplishment is she was able to break those records while only playing three seasons due to her entire sophomore season being canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Burtron’s career batting average is .498, which is team record by 49 points. She has 121 career RBI’s, which is another team record, and Burtron did it in 122 fewer at-bats than Norwell’s previous record holder. She also has the career doubles record with 35 and did it in 64 fewer at-bats than the previous record holder. She is second in career home runs with 17. Her on-base percentage is a team career record at .532, and she also has the career team record in slugging percentage at .925 – more than 200 points higher than the previous record.
