Saturday was a busy day in Bluffton.

There was a selection of activities to choose from, depending on your interests and the ages of any children in your household: The Bluffton girls’ basketball shoot-out, Brrr Fest, the Creative Arts Council’s open house, and the American Legion Post 111 dinner, to name a few.

I choose the latter two, both for a little bit of work and a little bit of personal enjoyment.

I wanted to see the new CAC studio space at Life Church since the move at the end of 2021 while contributing to its fundraiser and being entertained with local talent. I had a great time with a dear friend enjoying the refreshments and watching singing numbers and ballet performances.

Outside of job-related obligations, I’m not sure I’ve attended many CAC events. I especially enjoyed the performances by the new children’s choir and the ballet Performing Company. We have some talented youth in our community.

Later in the evening I attended the annual birthday dinner for the Legion. As a regular attendee of this event, I always enjoy the fellowship and watching community members get recognized for their actions inside and outside of the post home. I almost forget I’m there to work — that’s how friendly of an atmosphere it is.

To hear how Sgt. James Agler saved multiple lives while responding to the fire at a Bluffton apartment complex last month was inspiring. And to learn how Post 111 Commander Ron Marshall kept the facility’s doors open after a pandemic-related closure was honorable.

As for the events I didn’t attend last weekend, I saw photos online of the Brrr Fest turnout, and it looks like it was another successful event.

While I’m not a craft beer fan, I would have enjoyed the wine samplings — especially from the new locally owned winery in southern Wells County called Dash 90 Wines. I’ve been meaning to check them out during their pop-up events.

As the weather turns warmer, there will be more events to check out around the county. I’m looking forward to it.
