NOTICE OF HEARING
ON PROPOSED RATES AND CHARGES
Property owners, rate payers and other interested parties in, served by or to be served by the Town of Markle are hereby notified that Ordinance No. 2024-8, establishing rates and charges for services to be rendered by the Sewage Works, was introduced at a meeting of the Town Council held on November 20, 2024. At a meeting of the Town Council to be held at 7:00 p.m. (Markle time) on December 18, 2024, in the Markle Town Hall, 154 East Morse Street, Markle, Indiana 46770, there will be a public hearing on the matter of the rates and charges, and consideration of adoption of said Ordinance No. 2024-8, which provides in part as follows:
§ 51.011 TAP FEE.
The tap fee for each hook-up, after the completion of construction of the system, shall be as follows:

(A) For any 5/8” – 3/4” hook-up: $1,300
Effective Upon Adoption
(B) For over 1” hook-up: $2,200
(C) In addition to the above tap fees, if the hook-up involves some extraordinary excavation, construction, material, or labor costs, then a reasonable surcharge can be added.
§ 51.115 METERED WATER USERS – SCHEDULE OF RATES AND CHARGES.
(D) Water Usage Schedule. The water usage schedule on which the amount of the rates and charges shall be determined is as follows:

§ 51.117 MULTIPLE USERS.
(B) In the event two or more dwelling units such as mobile homes, apartments or housekeeping rooms discharging sanitary sewage, water, or other liquids into the Town’s Sanitary Sewage System, either directly or indirectly, are users of water and the quantity of water is measured by a single water meter then, in such case, billing shall be as follows:
(1) The sum of the cost of 1,000 gallons of water used per month, as follows:

(2) A collection system maintenance charge multiplied by the number of dwelling units measured by said single meter. A dwelling unit shall be interpreted as a room or rooms or any other space or spaces in which cooking facilities are provided.”

Following the adoption of Ordinance No. 2024-8, users located outside the municipality’s corporate boundaries may be entitled to petition the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission under Section 8-1.5-3 to review and adjust the rates and charges imposed on the users if a petition under section 8-1.5-3 or under IC 36-9-23-26.1 with respect to the same rate ordinance has not been filed.
At such hearing and prior to final adoption of said Ordinance, all interested parties may appear and be heard. A copy of Ordinance No. 2024-8 may be examined at the office of the Clerk-Treasurer.
