There is a leprechaun on the loose! Murphy, the Mischievous Leprechaun, travels from park to park in Bluffton, causing mischief, pulling pranks, and hiding his gold at the end of rainbows. We need children of all ages to help us find him. This is a “hide and seek” game with a paper cut out of Murphy that will be hidden until March 13. If you find the paper cut out, you must return it to the Parks Department to claim your prize. We will then re-hide him in a different location after he is found. Follow Bluffton Parks on Facebook to see when he is on the run.

Coloring Contests were sent out to the schools this week and are due back to our office at the end of this month. If you want to print off more copies, they can be found at http://tinyurl.com/3v2r7287.

The City of Bluffton has a tree-planting program that will assist residents in planting trees along city streets during the early spring of 2023. The cost of trees is $37.00 each. Trees will arrive in a 5-gallon container. They must be ordered and paid for at the Mayor’s Office before March 22. Trees offered will be Red Sunset Maple, Eastern Redbud — Pink Blooming, Kousa Dogwood — White Blooming, and Heritage River Birch — multi-stem.

The city will assist homeowners in planting trees by digging the hole for planting during early spring, provided the location can be reached from the street by the city’s equipment. If you wish, the trees will be delivered to your home for you to plant. Trees are expected to arrive in late March or early April.

The City cannot guarantee the tree’s growth since much of the planting success depends upon the tree’s care after it is planted in the ground. Trees may not be planted under utility lines or where the tree’s growth may endanger overhead or underground utilities.

Speaking of trees, did you know that the Parks Department accepts Memorial Tree Donations? Honor a loved one by planting trees in their memory. Orders are collected year-round, and trees are planted at the best suitable time (typically spring or fall). Your donation not only provides a home for wildlife and shade for families walking on the River Greenway trail but also protects the trail itself, as the tree roots stabilize the bank. Did you know that a single tree provides enough oxygen for one year for a family of 4 or that it can capture 18,000 gallons of water throughout their lives, improving the watershed areas? By planting memorial trees, you honor the life and legacy of your loved one and help preserve the tree canopy in our beautiful parks and trails for generations to come. We are excited to inform you that we are working with a local Boy Scout who has offered to build a storage shed at the Wells Community Pool. Please consider donating to this project as he learns valuable life lessons in managing a budget, organizing a volunteer crew, and developing his construction skills.

My name is Parker McCartney, and I am a Boy Scout from Troop 149, located in Bluffton. I am asking for your help on my Eagle Scout Project. An Eagle Scout Project is a major step in the journey of an Eagle Scout. For this project, a scout must lead a service project that benefits the community. For my project, I have chosen to build a shed for the Wells Community Pool, which will be used to store filter powder and briquettes. Currently, I have all the necessary paperwork filled out to begin the project, and all I need are the materials to begin building the shed. The cost to purchase the necessary materials is around $2,700. I am asking for your help in purchasing the materials. If you want to donate, checks can be sent to the Bluffton Parks Department at 128 E Market Street, Bluffton, IN 46714. Please note “Eagle Scout Project” on the memo line. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the Parks Department at parks@blufftonindiana.gov. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great week!
