County Commissioners will meet Monday afternoon

Northern Wells school board will meet Tuesday

The board of the Northern Wells Community Schools will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the school district’s central office, 312 N. Jefferson St. in Ossian.

• Superintendent’s report, including their special education programming and planning update.

Wells County Council will meet Tuesday evening

The Wells County Council will meet Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Room 105, the multi-purpose room on the lower level of the Wells Carnegie Government Annex, 223 W. Washington St.

The meeting will open at 6 p.m. with an informational session concerning local income tax, presented to the board by Darren Bates.

The regular meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Topics on the agenda include:

• Transfers — Clerk Records Perpetuation Fund.

• Additional appropriations — General Fund (recorder, surveyor, drainage board, Circuit Court, and Soil and Water.

• Highway Fund.

• 2022-02 Community Crossings Matching Grant 450E Phase I and CCMG 2023-01 bridges 170 and 85.

• Review of the estimated property tax levy limits and the circuit breakers for each taxing unit.

• Local income tax template.

• 2023-2 updated salary ordinance.

• Updated 2023 Solid Waste District salary contract.

Area Plan Commission will meet Thursday evening

The Wells County Area Plan Commission will meet in a special session at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, in Room 105, the multi-purpose room on the lower level of the Wells Carnegie Government Annex, 223 W. Washington St.

The only new item of business on the agenda for the special meeting is a request from Ossian Spec II for a proposed 30,000-square-foot building west of 435 Industrial Park Way. The property is in Jefferson Township and is zoned I-1 (industrial). 

Wells County Public Library board will meet Tuesday

The board of the Wells County Public Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the meeting room of the main library, 200 W. Washington St.

Topics on the agenda include:

• Public input.

• Librarian’s and treasurer’s reports.

• Committee reports — building, budget, policy and by-laws, public awareness/outreach, nominating, director evaluation, personnel business, and building. Under new business, the board will consider the 2024 salary resolution, rainy day budget, operating budget, bond and interest budget, LIRF budget, notice to taxpayer, and the Indiana Internet consortium committee resolution 23-04.
