County Commissioners have given $2,000 to support an anti-drug speaker series within Wells County schools.
Erin Prible, director of the Chamber of Commerce, addressed the commissioners about the series, which will feature Cody Knuckles and John Humphries, also known as “Cody and John Speak.” Knuckles and Humphries have both experienced addiction and now work with individuals and organizations for drug prevention and addiction recovery within Indiana.
Prible said the series was an extension of the advocacy committee within the Chamber and the Wells County Drug Task Force. The group has been meeting to find means of prevention and solutions to drugs within the community.
The speaking event also falls under guidelines to use funding from opioid settlements.
“What we’re trying to do is find funding to help secure for the schools to participate, as well as the venue, and offer incentives for parties for people to come and participate in events,” Prible said.
According to Prible, speaking events will take place on Sept. 12, 13 and 14. A community event will also follow on the evening of Sept. 14.
