Tuesday, 9:04 p.m., South Meridian Road and East 700S. Deputy located a 2003 Chevy Silverado pick-up truck in the west side ditch with two juvenile males standing in the middle of the roadway. The deputy stopped to speak with the juveniles. One of the men said he came out to make sure the driver was OK and had not been riding in the vehicle. The driver, 17, stated he swerved to miss a deer while driving and hit a utility pole, which was broken in half with lines down. The deputy observed lines on the road which indicated the car had been doing “burn outs” and that the driver was unsteady on his feet and his eyes appeared bloodshot. The driver denied having consumed any alcohol, but upon further questioning, the driver state he had had two beers. At this time, the deputy conducted a search for weapons and a field sobriety test, which showed impairment in the driver’s motor functions. The driver blew a 0.152 percent in a preliminary breath test and the deputy contacted the driver’s mother, who said she would meet the deputy and her son at the Sheriff’s Office. The driver’s mother consented to a certified breath test, which returned at 0.140 percent. The juvenile was then transported to Bluffton Regional Medical Center for a blood draw.
