Tigers push 13 runs across in win over Bulldogs

Bluffton’s baseball team got its first win of the season, scoring 13 runs in a 13-1 rout over the visiting New Haven Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Andrew Onuegbu went 3-4 in the game, while Drew Pressler and AJ Streveler produced multi-hit games for the Tigers.

Onuegbu earned the win on the mound, allowing one run in three innings on three, striking out five.

Bluffton will host Blackford at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 6.

Knights edge Starfires in baseball home opener

Norwell won a tight 2-0 game in its home opener against South Adams Tuesday.

The Knights improve now to 3-0 on the season after two wins last Saturday against Jennings County and No. 5 in Class 2A Seeger. Norwell has receiving votes in Class 3A.

Brody Bolyn, Lleyton Bailey, Trey Bodenheimer, Graham Gaier, and Luke McBride all had one hit in the game. No Knight had more than one, though.

Bolyn and Bodenheimer both doubled in the third inning and tacked on an RBI a piece to give the Knights their two runs.

Bolyn also was stout on the mound allowing no runs in four innings of work and just two hits. He struck out seven Starfires in the outing.

Bailey got the three-out save.

Norwell will travel to Eastbrook at 5 p.m. Friday, April 7.

TIgers boys’ and girls’ track and teams start off strong

The Bluffton boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Eastbrook on Tuesday for their first meet of the season.

The official score was not kept, but both teams had many that placed in the top three in most of the events.

Both squads will be back on the track at home for the Wells County meet starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13.

Panthers rout Tigers in softball opener

The Bluffton softball team dropped its season opener at home to Eastbrook 11-1 Tuesday night.

Claire Craighead scored the lone run for the Tigers and added a hit.

Lily King, Madison Smith, Cayah King, and Averi Petty all had hits in the game.

Bluffton’s next game will be at Bellmont at 5 p.m. on Wednesay, April 5.

Raiders girls’ track places third at Madison-Grant

The Southern Wells girls’ track and field team opened up the season at Madison-Grant.

The Raiders placed third with a team score of 25. Daleville won the event with 78 team points while Madison-Grant had 46.

Event leaers for the girls team were:

• Sydney Alstoft first in the 300-IM and  second in the 100-meter hurdles.

• Brianna Hughett third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 IM.

• Tessa Maul third in the 400-meter.

• Kate McMillian fourth in the 400-meter and fourth in the long jump.

• Lexie Fiechter fourth in the 800-meter.

• Brooke Tonner second in the high jump.

• Karlee Warner third in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

• Eve McElhaney fourth in discus.

Both the boys and girls will be at Bluffton for the Wells County meet starting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13.
