I like the weather better now and I hope my heat bill goes down!
Life is still going on in Zanesville. You can catch an UPWARD basketball game at the Tower Life Center on Saturdays and the Coffee Cafe every weekday morning at the Community Church of God.
I am trying to get our first Lions Club meeting for the year put together. It will be this evening, Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. A free Haystack salad, dessert and drinks will be served to all attendees and soon after we will be discussing the upcoming Zanesville Sesquicentennial (175 years birthday party) that will be held Saturday, July 29, along with the annual Lions Fun Festival. If you cannot make the meeting and you want to be a part of the celebration or want just to volunteer a little time let me know at 638-4327. This year the Town of Zanesville officials have voted to co-sponsor the festival.
You probably read the obituary of a native of Zanesville. Esther (Reed) Krick-Woodward passed away at Heritage Point in Huntington at the age of 101 on Jan. 31. Just a few weeks ago I visited Esther at the nursing home and also Imogene Roebuck and Mary Taylor Brooks. I was wanting to talk to her again about her time working at Knight’s Store when she was 11. Our special condolences to her family, her friends and all who knew her.
Her father Milo Reed owned a cider mill here in Zanesville. The building was moved out to the McBride farm just south of town and now still is used for a barn by Dave McBride.
Esther may well have been the last survivor of the Class of 1939 at Lafayette Central High School.
By the way, happy birthday to my brother Dave as he will be 80 years old on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
