Attention, fellas, if you haven’t checked the calendar lately, Tuesday is Valentine’s Day. Next week is also National Random Acts of Kindness Week which encourages us to put kindness first and share it everywhere we go. Not only does being kind to someone else lift them up, but there are also benefits for you too. Being kind makes you happier, is good for your heart, increases your self-esteem, and helps you live longer. Be the unexpected gift to someone this coming week with your kind words and gestures.

If you want to do something fun with the kids, next weekend is the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance and the Mother-Son Nerf War event. Tickets for both events are sold in the Clerk Treasurer’s office at City Hall for only $5 per person. The price of tickets at the door will be $7 per person. The Nerf War Minecraft edition will be from 2-3:30 p.m., and the Medieval Mardi Gras Theme Dance is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Both events are being held at the 4-H community building. Details about the programs are on the Bluffton Parks Facebook page.

It’s that time of year when baseball/softball sign-ups start. While the Parks Department doesn’t run these leagues, we do tend to get a lot of questions about tryouts, so we thought we would share their information.

Sandy Koufax sign-up and tryouts are scheduled for Sunday, Feb, 26, at Camp King (Covenant Chapel), located at the corner of 3550 and State Road 1.

All other leagues (listed below) will register on Saturdays, Feb. 18, 25, and March 4, at the Wells County Boys and Girls Club from 9-Noon. Additional information about the leagues can be found on their Facebook pages.

Wells County Girls Softball Fees are $50, and the leagues include Elementary League (pitching machine league) Grades 1-3; Junior League Grades 4-5; Senior League Grades 6-9.

Bluffton Youth Baseball Fees are $50, and age groups include 8 -13-year-olds. (8-year-olds will be evaluated at tryouts) (13-year-olds should try out with Koufax if applicable).

Bluffton T Ball and Minor League Fees are $35, and age groups are T Ball 5 & 6-year-olds

Minor League (Machine Pitch) 7-8-year-olds. (Note, some 8-year-olds are ready for Bluffton Youth Baseball; you will need to try out for the BYB League. If your child is not ready for that league, they will be eligible to play for Minor League)

League organizers, swim teams, and anyone wishing to request a field or pool use for the season must attend the next Park Board meeting scheduled on Thursday, March 2, at 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of City Hall. Rental agreements can be sent in advance by request by calling 824-6069.

We are excited to announce that things are moving along for the Lancaster Park project. We want to thank the Wells County Foundation, who held on to the park deed until we were able to receive it this week, and Northern Wells Community Schools for the land donation that was used as a match to increase the value of the LWCF grant. This park has been a labor of love, so it just seems fitting that it will go to bid on Valentine’s Day. If you or someone you know would like to submit a proposal, you can log on to Eastern Engineering Plan Room for the details. Bids will be due back on Feb. 28 by 3:30 p.m.

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite snowman on the Bluffton Parks Facebook Page. We had over 40 entries this year. The contest ends tomorrow at midnight.

Have a great week!
