Two people were detained following a high speed chase from Markle to Bluffton Wednesday evening.
Gaige Johnson, 18, Huntington, was reportedly the driver of the car while his passenger was Bryanna M. Glebba, 20, Huntington. Johnson was reportedly taken into custody in Huntington County, but there was no information on what he had been charged with.
At 6:57 p.m. Wednesday, Markle Police Officer Craig Neuenschwander radioed emergency dispatch that he was in pursuit of a black passenger car entering Wells County from the Huntington County side of Markle on Ind. 116.
As the car passed over 300W, it reportedly reached a speed of 110 mph. It continued southeast on Ind. 116 at a high rate of speed until reaching heading east on 250N. At Ind. 1 and Center Drive, the entrance to the North Oaks subdivision, the vehicle sideswiped a Bluffton Utility pole and crashed into a ditch on the west side of Ind. 1.
Johnson reportedly fled the vehicle with Neuenschwander in pursuit on foot. Johnson reportedly circled back around and ran back toward his car where he was ordered to the ground by several law enforcement officers with guns drawn.
Reportedly while he was being placed under arrest, Johnson told the officer that the “money on the road beside him was fake.”
Glebba was reportedly asked by one of the officers why they ran and Glebba is alleged to have replied, “because the cop (referring to Neuenschwander) turned his lights on.”
Glebba was later released from custody and transported to a convenience store to await a ride back to Huntington.
