Ossian Rotary will celebrate Veterans’ Day by welcoming Marine Corps League Associate Member James Beetham as a speaker at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the First Baptist Church of Ossian, 1001 Dehner Drive.
The Marine Corps League is the only congressionally chartered United States Marine Corps-related veterans’ organization in the United States.
Beetham is the third generation in his family with military association. His grandfather, Danny Beetham, who grew up in England, served during World War II in the British Royal Airforce, and was later sponsored by U.S. Air Force veterans to immigrate to the United States.
His father, Dannie Beetham, served with the Marines in the north African desert as a heavy equipment operator and in Beirut, Lebanon, in the early 1980s. His service included the time of the U.S. embassy bombing there.
The Marine Corps League assists marines by helping their family members with household needs, funeral details, and the effects of veteran PTSD upon return from combat.
