City:

Wednesday, 5:50 p.m., Wayne Street at Harrison Road. Officer pulled over a vehicle and arrested the driver, Loyall Dean Grogg, 70, Bluffton, on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his body, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond set at $2,500.

Wednesday, 6:11 p.m., residence in the 300 block of North Williams Street. Tool bag that was left outside stolen.

Thursday, 8:33 a.m., apartment in the 200 block of West South Street. Caller reported all four tires on her Dodge Avenger were slashed during the night.

 Thursday, 11:17 a.m., residence in the 1100 block of Ridgewood Lane. Caller reported theft of political signs.

Thursday, 1:40 p.m., Almco Steel, 0059N-Oak St. Extended. Male interviewer with a medical problem. Bluffton Fire Department first responders, Bluffton Police and Wells County EMS dispatched.

County:

Thursday, 10:21 a.m., residence on 100E south of 1100S. Report of an unresponsive woman at the residence. Chester Township and Nottingham Township first responders, Blackford County EMS and sheriff’s deputies dispatched. Wells County Coroner’s office contacted.

Ossian:

Wednesday, 4:55 p.m., 5:19 p.m., and 8:20 p.m., complaints of a man loitering at the Ossian Branch of the Wells County Public Library, at Heyerly’s Bakery and at The All American Ossian Deli. Ossian police officer responded each time. The man was waiting for a ride to Fort Wayne after wrecking his friend’s car down by Muncie. He reported his friend’s mother gave him a ride to Ossian and he was now waiting on another ride from Fort Wayne. The officer gave him a ride to the convenience store at the corner of Bluffton and Ferguson roads.

ACCIDENTS

County:

Wednesday, 11:26 p.m., 350S near 600E. Sgt. Andrew Campbell of the Wells County Sheriff’s Department was on patrol when he struck a deer with his patrol vehicle causing substantial damage to the front of the vehicle and killing the deer. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

FIRE RUNS

Thursday, 5:02 p.m., Utz Quality Foods, 1955 West Lancaster Street. Strong smell of natural gas. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. No natural gas was detected on the fire department’s gas sensor.

ARRESTS

Donald Lee Ludington, 48, Bluffton; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond set at $1,500.

TICKETS

Patrick E. Shields, 35, rural Dunkirk; 45 mph-30 zone, Main Street at 4-H Park Road.

CORRECTION

In the Wednesday edition of the News-Banner, in the Police Notebook, an accident involving Eric A. Showalter, 44, rural Bluffton, listed Showalter as having received a citation for failure to yield from the officer investigating the crash. Showalter was not issued a citation but rather was issued a written warning for failure to yield.
