Bluffton boys’ tennis blanks Blackford

The Bluffton boy’s tennis team brought the brooms out in a 5-0 sweep over Blackford.

Keegan Schwartz for the Tigers led things off with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jake Ludwig in singles. Bluffton’s Drew Pressler beat Jace Keplinger 6-0, 6-2, and Anthony Hartman defeated Charlie Crabtree 6-3, 6-1.

At doubles for the Tigers were Preston Daughter and Blake Moser with a win over Damon Thompson and Lucas Penrod 6-0, 6-1. The other doubles were Bluffton’s Max Worth and Nolan Lambert, defeating Derick Elliot and Colton Yoder 6-2, 6-3.

The JV team also played and beat Blackford 2-0.

Bluffton’s Ben Maggard and Dane Schlagenhaur beat Tanner Roberts and Trenton Norton 8-2, while Kade Abbett and Kaden Grau defeated Grayson Foreman and Carson Miller 8-1.

The next match will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 23rd, at Huntington North.

Bluffton volleyball beats Mississinewa in 3 games

Bluffton’s volleyball team got back on track with a three-game win over Mississinewa. The Tigers won by the scores of 25-19, 27-25, and 25-11

The stat leaders were Lauren Reiff with eight kills, Emma Baumgartner with 18 assists, Maryn Schreiber with eight kills, Riley Couch with 15 digs, and Savanna Jessup with four aces. 

The JV team was also in action, losing in three games to Mississinewa 25-21, 25-20, and 15-13.

Stat leaders for the JV squad were Claire Craighead with four aces, Konley Ault with 11 kills, and Lexi Grady with 16 assists and nine digs. 

The Lady Tigers will hit the floor again starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 23, at Blackford.

Norwell boys’ soccer beat in final mintue 2-1

The Norwell boy’s soccer team was defeated on the road against Manchester 2-1. 

Michael Ortiz got the game started with a goal for the Squires assisted by Nathaniel Miller who forced a turnover. Then, Cooper Sloan found Autin De Leon to tie it at 1-1. The goal was De Leon’s team-leading sixth goal on the season. Then in the last mintue of the game, Tyler McClain from Manchester picked up a rebound on the attack and scored to win the game.

Norwell’s Noah Fromm had 10 saves in the game.

The boy’s JV team was also on the field, losing 2-1 to Manchester. The lone goal for the Knights was scored by Noah Schamerloh, his second of the year.

Norwell (1-2-1) will begin conference play 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 24 at Leo. JV will play first, followed by the varsity.

Bluffton girls’ golf beats Jay County, Monroe Central

The Bluffton girls’ golf team finished first out of three schools: Jay County and Monroe-Central, scoring a 209 at Portland Golf Club. Jay County finished second with a 238, while Monroe Central finished with a 245.

The medalist of the day was Lily King who shot a 46 for the Tigers. The rest of the team was followed by Emma Schwartz (49), Kennedy Nash (55), Tressa Renner (59), and Averi Petty (63).

The Tigers will be back to Timber Ridge Golf Course at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 23 against Southern Wells and Northfield.
