Norwell boys’ soccer begins season with 0-0 tie
Goalies were the difference makers in the Fort Wayne Wayne at Norwell soccer match, finishing with no goals from either side.
Noah Fromm from Norwell collected seven saves, while Byron Escobar from Wayne had six.
Philip Gaier lead the way in shots with five, four of them on goal.
Norwell boys’ JV and Varsity will travel to Blackhawk Christian at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18
Mississinewa boys’ tennis beats Bluffton 3-2
Bluffton’s boys’ tennis team started their season losing a close match to Mississinewa, 3-2.
Mississinewa swept the single matches: Garrett Spencer defeated Keegan Schwartz 6-0, 4-6, 6-2; Kannen Smith defeated Drew Pressler 6-2, 2-6, 6-3; and Micah Lord defeated Anthony Hartman 6-0, 2-6, 6-0.
In doubles, Bluffton’s Preston Daughtery/Blake Moser defeated Michael Kissane/Max Stanley 6-2, 6-0. And Bluffton’s Logan Reifstack/Max Worth defeated Aiden Tignor/Nathan Hillsamer 6-2, 6-2.
Bluffton’s JV team won their match 4-1.
The team is hosting Union City at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug 16
Blackwell released by Buccaneers
Norwell High School graduate Curtis Blackwell has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it was learned Monday.
The 2017 graduate and former Ball State University offensive lineman had signed an undrafted free agent contract with the National Football League team in May.
He is reported to be returning home to consider other options, which may include an invitation to another NFL team’s camp.
