Bluffton Board of Works to meet Tuesday afternoon
The Bluffton Board of Public Works and Safety will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, in the meeting room on the first floor of City Hall, 128 E. Market St.
Topics on the agenda include:
• Updates on junk at 427 W. Lancaster St., 1021 S. Oak St., and 817 S. Williams St.
• Review of city standards
• Utility account deposits
• Discussion with Alpha Engineering concerning the timeline and pay schedule for electrical substation engineering.
• Personnel matters, brought to the board by Tony Fey, superintendent of the Wastewater Department, and Police Chief Kyle Randall.
• Consideration of a water customer’s issue.
• Discussion of retainage for Crosby Construction.
• Brush grinding quotes, brought to the board by Street Commissioner Tim Simpson.º
Northern Wells school board will meet Tuesday
The board of the Northern Wells Community Schools will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the school district’s central office, 312 N. Jefferson St. in Ossian.
Topics on the agenda include:
• Superintendent’s report — 2022-23 new student enrollment increases, the 2023 budget timeline, and the 2022 collective bargaining timeline.
• Middle School project update.
• Wet bulb globe thermometer presentation
• Personnel matters — One request for leave, four resignations, and six hiring recommendations.
• Acceptance of eight donations.
• Consideration of overnight trip requests.
• Consideration of the 2023-24 school calendar.
• Consideration of a resolution to approve sewer line dedication and ingress/egress access for entrance to transferred Lancaster property.
• Consideration of a resolution to approve consent and release agreement for transferred Lancaster property.
• Approval of LOA with Schmidt Associates for LES/OES study.
• Approval of Schmidt Associates for additional projects.

Area Plan Commission will meet Thursday evening
The Wells County Area Plan Commission will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, in Room 105, the multi-purpose room on the lower level of the Wells Carnegie Government Annex, 223 W. Washington St.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider a development plan for a proposed six-building “u-store” development at 1800 S. Main St. in Bluffton. The property is in Harrison Township and is zoned B-3.
The development plan is presented by Brick and Mortar Properties LLC. It was on the agenda for the Aug. 4 APC meeting, which had to be canceled due to the lack of a quorum.
