Richard Triplett is the new building commissioner of Bluffton, assuming the job Monday.
Triplett, 43, lives in Bluffton and has been working for the past six years at WEG Commercial Motors on Spring Street. He is a licensed home inspector for the past eight years, working that in the off-hours of his full-time job.
Now, his full-time job is connected directly to that avocation. He’s happy to serve.
“It is definitely a job that I’m interested in, from the aspect of my history with residential houses,” he said during an interview in his office this week. “I am looking forward to working with everybody inside the city and the contractors and others.”
He says the office will continue to be complaint driven rather than, as he puts it, “100 percent proactive.”
“There’s always going to be complaints,” he said. “There’s always going to be the complaint-driven aspect of the job.”
Nevertheless, when he’s out and about the city in his official capacity, and he sees something, he will look into it.
Triplett is the city’s second building commissioner. He succeeds Ted Smith, who retired in May.
