Jared Marcum, member of Boy Scout Troop 149, was recently awarded a $300 Youth As Resources grant to complete an Eagle Scout service project called “Bark House at Ossian Dog Park.”
The funds will be used to purchase building materials to construct a year around storage shed that resembles a doghouse. Marcum designed the structure from a photograph using CAD software, developed a list of needed materials and supplies, and organized the build with the help of other members of the troop.
Marcum noted that participating in the project “teaches leadership skills, allows them to learn building skills, and gives everyone an opportunity to serve the community.” Upon completion of the project, Marcum will earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
YAR is a program that recognizes youth as a valuable community resource. The program is governed by a youth/adult partnership responsible for awarding grants to other local youth organizations to design and carry out community service projects.
