Frederick Lee Niblick, 67, Bluffton, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class A misdemeanor. He also admitted to being an habitual vehicular substance offender.

He was ordered to serve 10 days in the Wells County Jail without the benefit of good conduct time credit. He was credited for two days spent confined awaiting disposition of his case. He was also ordered to serve two years in prison for his admission of being a vehicular substance abuse offender. All of that sentence was suspended. The remaining eight days was ordered served at the Wells County Jail.

Ordered to serve 100 days of home detention upon release from the jail, undergo substance abuse counseling, pay the costs associated with his blood test, court costs and probation fees.

As part of a plea agreement, one count of operating a motor vehicle between the hours of dusk and dawn with no headlights, a Class C infraction, was dismissed.

At 6:44 p.m. Nov. 13, 2021, a Bluffton police officer reported witnessing Niblick exit the Save-On Liquor store parking lot without any lights on in his 2003 Mini Cooper.

After pulling the vehicle over on Main Street just south of Market Street and speaking with Niblick, the officer reported smelling an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Niblick. He allegedly admitted having drank alcohol earlier in the day.

Niblick failed field sobriety tests  and blew a .094 percent alcohol concentration equivalency on a Breathalyzer test.
