Chandler Gerber

Chandler Gerber, a 2008 graduate of Norwell High School, has announced his intentions to run for the Bluffton Common Council.

Roger Thornton, current council member for District 1, announced this week he would not seek re-election. Gerber, a resident of the Woodlands subdivision, is hoping to fill that spot.

“I have worked with hundreds of families in Bluffton while helping them with real estate needs so I have a good feel for what is affecting local families,” Gerber said Wednesday. “I routinely work with various departments and department heads in Bluffton while building, developing, and renovating properties and I look forward to continuing that work in this new capacity.”

Gerber currently serves on the county’s property tax assessment board of appeals, is a committee member for Bluffton T-Ball and Minor League, and coaches basketball at the YMCA.

He is also the Wells County Republican Party treasurer and serves on the Wells County Economic Advocacy Committee.

Gerber said he believes he can bring a valuable perspective and some insight to the position through his experiences and the relationships he’s built during 15 years in the real estate industry.

Thornton’s term is up at the end of 2023. Gerber acknowledged that he is announcing his candidacy early but noted he has been attending city meetings to familiarize himself with what’s going on.

“I just want to be ready,” he said.

Gerber and his wife Rachel have been married since 2009 and have three children: Shiloh, Zander and Tripp.
