INCIDENTS

City:

Friday, 4:50 p.m., laundromat at 108 E. Walnut St. Vandalism reported. Officer responded and found seven juveniles who reportedly denied having anything to do with the vandalism; however, the owner reported that the mess that had been made was not there before the youths arrived. The seven were made to clean up the mess and then sent on their way.

Friday, 5:27 p.m., residence in the 800 block of South Johnson Street. Resident reported fraud.

Saturday, 11:36 a.m., Bluffton Fire Department first responders, Wells County EMS and Bluffton police dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter, 2100 N. Main St. on a report of a 29-year-old woman in the grocery area of the store complaining of being light-headed.

Saturday, 9:01 p.m., Main Motel, 1009 S. Main St. Caller reported roommates in an adjacent room were fighting again and it sounded as if someone was being thrown against a wall. Officers responded. Turned out they weren’t fighting, just showering together.

Sunday, 11:18 a.m., residence in the 1200 block of West Lancaster Street. Caller reported temporary license tag stolen.

Sunday, 12:24 p.m., Capri Meadows apartments. Report of an 18-year-old male yelling and cursing at his mother. Officers responded. Situation calmed.

Sunday, 2:21 p.m., Bluffton compost site by the Wabash River. Report that someone in a white pickup truck dumped bones. Officers responded and Indiana Department of Natural Resources conservation officer responded. Upon examination it was confirmed that the bones were animal bones.

Sunday, 6:48 p.m., residence in the 500 block of West Miller Street. Parked car entered and change stolen from the vehicle.

Monday, 8:31 a.m., Harvest Road at Main Street. Officer pulled over a vehicle and arrested Briana Lashell Bohanon, 27, Fort Wayne, on one count of driving while suspended with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor. She was released on her own recognizance.

Friday, 2:52 p.m., rural Markle residence reported someone attempted to use her identity to secure a loan through Capital Community Bank in Chicago.

Friday, 7:18 p.m., Norwell High School, 1100E-U.S. 224. Wells County EMS, Uniondale First Responders and sheriff’s deputies responded on a report of a 50-year-old man suffering from a dizzy spell.

Friday, 7:51 p.m., Meridian Road east of Rose Road.  Someone was out in a field “mudding” with a pickup truck.

Friday, 11:53 p.m., 300W north of south of 1100N. Report of a woman lying in the northbound lane of 300W close to the fog line. Lying near her head was an opened bottle of Modelo beer. Sheriff’s deputies, Uniondale Fire Department first responders and Wells County EMS responded. A passerby managed to get the woman to her feet and a deputy administered a portable Breathalyzer test which reportedly showed an alcohol concentration equivalency of .233 percent. Legal limit for intoxication in Indiana is .08 percent. Information was taken for a report.

Saturday, 12:54 a.m., 600W at 300S. Huntington County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Wells County Sheriff’s Department in locating a large dark-colored sport utility vehicle or pickup truck with a topper that hit a pole in Huntington County and then was last seen heading east into Wells County. Sheriff’s deputy searched the area but did not see a vehicle matching the description.

Saturday, 2:16 p.m., residence on 200W south of 1200N. Sheriff’s deputy assisted a Fort Wayne Police officer in locating a man at the residence who was a suspect in a hit-and-run crash in Fort Wayne in which a pedestrian had been struck and seriously injured.

Sunday, 11:13 p.m., residence on Grape Street in Poneto. Report of an unresponsive 17-year-old female. Sheriff’s deputies, Poneto Fire Department first responders and Wells County EMS dispatched. Wells County Coroner requested.

Monday, 10:08 a.m., Zanesville Lions Club pavilion, 3088 Van Horn St., Zanesville. Someone used large rip-rap-type rocks to smash three lights at the pavilion.

ACCIDENTS

City:

Wednesday, April 6, 1237 p.m., Marion Street at Market Street. Todd M. Fiechter, 43, rural Montpelier, was southbound on Marion and making a left turn from Marion onto Market in his 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Deborah A. Gardner, 67, Bluffton, was trying to drive straight north across the intersection in her 1998 Dodge Neon. The two vehicles collided causing less than $1,000 damage.

Thursday, 6 a.m., Inteva, 1805 W. Lancaster St. Parked Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, registered to Jeffrey G. Eltzroth, Bluffton, hit by a hit-and-run driver. Damage exceeded $2,500.

Saturday, 11:32 a.m., Main Street east of Charles Deam Court. Ashton T. Chamness, 16, rural Uniondale, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu south on Main Street when a vehicle ahead of him came to an abrupt stop. Chamness swerved to the right from the lane he was in into the adjacent lane and collided in a same direction sideswipe with a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Rebecca A. Rupright, 72, rural Ossian. Damage exceeded $2,500.

Thursday, 4:02 p.m., the short section of I-69 in Wells County. Bradley D. Arney, 62, Hastings, Mich., was northbound on I-69 in a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he reportedly hit his brakes hard causing Heath A. Weis, 40, Avilla, to hit the pickup truck from behind in a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Reportedly Hastings was upset with Weis because he believed Weis was following him too closely. Damage exceeded $2,500. 

FIRE RUNS

Friday, 5:43 p.m., Dollar Tree, 937 N. Main St. Bluffton Fire Department firefighters doused a small fire in a dumpster behind the building.

Friday, 9:13 p.m., 520 W. Central Ave. residence of Chris and Ashlie Sills. Smell of natural gas in the residence. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Gas readings of 280 parts per million detected in upstairs laundry room. Gas turned off, residence aired out and homeowners advised to contact a technician.

Monday, 3:59 a.m., Bluffton News-Banner, 125 N. Johnson St. Smoke in the building. Bluffton Fire Department dispatched. Mutual aid requested from both Liberty Township and Ossian fire departments. Smoke traced to hot bearing on press. Both Ossian and Liberty Township advised to disregard. 

ARRESTS

Adriana Lashay France, 29, Fort Wayne; driving while suspended with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor. Released on her own recognizance.

Jamie A. Ortiz, 41, Fort Wayne; driving while suspended with a prior conviction for the same offense, a Class A misdemeanor. Released on his own recognizance.

Shawn Michael Collis, 29, listed as homeless; residential entry, a Level 6 felony, and invasion of privacy, a Class A misdemeanor. Bond set at $30,000.
