The Adams County Sheriff’s Department investigated the death of a male toddler Wednesday around noon.
The child has not been identified nor was the location of the incident identified in the press release from the department.
Deputies and officers on scene collected statements that suggested that the child was noticed missing for some time before being located by a family member. The Child was located head down in an approximately 39-inch hole that contained 10 inches of water. The hole was man made and intended to have a post set in it for construction purposes.
Lutheran Air transported the child from the scene to Lutheran Hospital.
Assisting the sheriff’s department in the investigation were the Berne Police Department, the Geneva Police Department, the Berne Fire Department, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Adams County EMS, and the Indiana Department of Child Service.
