Crews from the Indiana Department of Transportation are expected to be in Bluffton Tuesday to repair the traffic lights at the intersection of Ind. 1/Main Street and Wabash Street, Mayor John Whicker said Monday afternoon.
Whicker said Tim Simpson, the city’s street commissioner, fielded a call from an INDOT employee Monday that crews would be available to repair the light. The traffic signals at Main and Wabash, one of the busiest intersections in Bluffton, have been out since at least Thursday morning — the second day of the two-day snow event that blanketed the area last week.
INDOT said a traffic light outage on U.S. 6, which involved a significant takedown of traffic lights, supports, and wires, took precedence over repairs in Bluffton.
Most motorists treated the darkened intersection in Bluffton as a four-way stop even through temporary stop signs were put up on Wabash Street.
