Janet “Sue” Meyer, 82, of Bluffton, passed away at 4:27 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at her residence.

She was born Wednesday, March 1, 1939, in Portland, Ind. She married Kenneth L. Meyer Saturday, Aug. 15, 1959, in Dunkirk, Ind.

Sue was a 1956 graduate of Dunkirk High School. She had lived most of her life in Chester Township of Wells County and had lived in Bluffton since 2018. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton, and formerly attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Montpelier and St. John’s Catholic Church in Hartford City. She had worked at Dacra Glass, Kitco, and retired from the Blackford County Schools where she worked in food services.

Sue was a member of the Friends of 5 Points School, the JT 5 Homemakers Club, Alter & Rosary Society, and was a board member at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid I.U. basketball and Colts football fan.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Kathy (Mike) Painter of Bluffton, Susan (Doug) Newhouse of Lagrange, Ind., Melanie (Ken) Baumeister of Canton, Mich., and Jenny (Jim) Hiester of Bluffton; a sister, Jane Ellen (Lloyd) Kesler of Rio Rancho, N.M.; nine grandchildren, Amber Bauer of Fort Wayne, Abby Sharp of Canton, Mich., Megan Painter of Indianapolis, Alison Green of Denver, Colo., Carson Hiester of Bluffton, Ciera Hiester of Bluffton, Ben Newhouse of Ossian, Justin Newhouse of Fort Wayne, and Kasey Newhouse of Fort Wayne; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leo “Bud” Hart; her mother, Dorothy Fischer Hart; her husband, Kenneth L. Meyer; two brothers, Charles Ridenour and James Ridenour; and a sister, Norma Oblinger.

Family and friends may gather to share and remember from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St. in Montpelier, and also from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1300 N. Main St. in Bluffton.

A service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton with Father David Violi officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Montpelier.
