Bluffton gets first volleyball win, coach Pyle’s first

Bluffton’s 3-0 win over Blackford was the first win of the season and the first for Caylee Pyle’s head coaching career.

The Tigers traveled to Hartford City for the sweep 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. Stat leaders were: Maryn Schreiber with 12 kills, Isla Gibson with 18 assists, Schreiber, Kamryn Ault, Rori Drayer and Sophie Eisenhut with two aces, Schreiber seven digs and Schreiber with two blocks.

Bluffton is no1-5 on the season.

The Tigers’ also won the junior varsity game 25-17, 25-16. Stat leaders: Lucy Mace seven kills, Kamryn Ault seven assists, Ava Trexler seven aces and seven digs, Mace with one block.

Bluffton will be at Churubusco at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

Raiders net second win of volleyball season

Southern Wells has played four games during the volleyball season so far this year and already has more wins than the last.

The Raiders swept Monroe Central (25-22, 25-14, 25-20) on the road, extending their win streak to two games. Their record is now 2-2.

Abbie Powell led the team with 15 kills, six aces and eight digs. Emma Parks had six kills, and Kila Shelley had 14 digs and three aces.

Southern Wells will host Mississinewa at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

Knights, Spartans tie in JV girls’ soccer

Norwell and Homestead’s junior varsity girls’ soccer teams braved the heat Tuesday night.

The result of it was a 0-0 tie. Maggie Neuenschwander and Shae Brooks combined for the shutout in goal for the Knights.

Dan Batdorff cited strong performances from Kaylee Bennett and Emma Garner on offense. On defense, he noted of Avery Elmore, Daniela Claudio and Addison Parsons.

Knights sweep middle school volleyball games

Norwell’s eighth and seventh-grade volleyball team’s began their seasons in style, sweeping the three-set games on Tuesday.

The eighth graders won over the Falcons 25-19, 14,25, 18-5. The seventh-grade team won 25-22, 20-25, 19-17.

Green Valley Golf results

Dave Willits, Arlin Pitts, Greg Castilow and Tom Reifsteck were apart of the winning team in this week’s Green Valley Tuesday Golf League.

Willits had the low gross of 36 and Mike Pursifull had a low net of 28. Ron Bleins was the closest to pin and Rick Murphy had the longest putt.
