A number programs have been scheduled to take place at the Wells County Historical Museum’s Annex over the next few months.
Folks who are interested in genealogy may want to attend the Saturday, July 16, 10 a.m. meeting in the annex when the program will be about “finding the women in your family history.”
Ice Cream Social
Sunday, July 17, has been selected as the date for the annual Ice Cream Social from 1 to 4 p.m. Soft ice cream and brownies will be offered. This year an antique car show will be part of the fun as the Old Fort Model-A Club will be making a stop at the mansion. Historical society members serve as judges for the car show.
Historic House Walk
This event will be held on Saturday, July 23, as Jim Sturgeon will serve as the guide as properties on South Main Street in Bluffton are visited. Walks will begin at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Registration to participate through the Wells County Public Library.
At the Movies
The showing of the video “Of Sound Mind,” the John Terrell murder trials will be shown in two parts on Sunday, Aug. 14 and 21. Each session will last two hours and begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Annex.
This was known as the most spectacular trial in Wells County dating back to 1903. The videos produced by the Pulse Opera House in Warren and written by Cynthia Smyth-Wartzok. There is no admission charge.
Senior Snippets
The first of the fall Senior Snippets classes will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Annex. Other dates will be Oct. 7, 12, 19, 26. The subjects will be announced by the Bluffton Park’s Department.
Street Fair Open House
This year the Historical Museum will not have a presence in the Industrial Tent. Instead the museum will be open, with hours to be announced at a later date. (The museum is air conditioned and ice cold, bottled water will be available.)
Cemetery Walk and
My Town Series
This year this combined event will be held at the Annex on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. Featured will be the town of Tocsin and the Prairie View Cemetery. The program will include actors portraying the following: Michael Blue, Rev. Johnson, Miss Ascroft and Mr. Richey. Members of the community will share their memories of Tocsin.
Open House
The Wells County Historical Museum is open on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. Various history buffs host on Sundays while Ben Jones and Paul Griner host on Wednesday. (The museum will be closed July 3 and Sept. 4.)
