More than 20 ice cream shops in northeast Indiana are participating in the 14th Annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser benefiting Kate’s Kart, which will be held Saturday, June 25.
Kate’s Kart is a not-for-profit organization that supplies free books to hospitalized children. “Through the gifting of new books, Kate’s Kart strives to provide a distraction to children experiencing life in a hospital setting,” according to a news release.
Volunteers will be at each location handing out book bags and books as well as playing games and collecting donations to support our mission. Thanks to the Don Wood Foundation, all children attending will receive a brand new STEM-friendly book, while supplies last.
Toppings Ice Cream Parlor in Bluffton will be participating in the event. Others in the nearest vicinity include Old 27 Ice Cream Shop, Decatur; Moose and Mollie’s Café & Gelato, Roanoke; and The Tasty Spoon, Hartford City.
In just 14 years, the organization has grown to service 21 Northeast Indiana hospitals with 34 book carts. A team of 100 volunteers, plus hospital staff give away approximately 3,500 brand new books every month to hurting or scared children in the hospital. To date, over 340,000 books have been distributed.
