The Town of Zanesville’s community survey is live online and will be for about three weeks as part of a new website.

Mark Huber, project manager for Abonmarche Consultants, led an hour-long presentation and discussion on the town’s ongoing master plan project during Tuesday’s meeting of the town council.

Huber said in order for the master plan to reflect what the community wants, community involvement in these early stages is critical. He said stakeholders not only need to participate in the survey — available at www.thrivezanesville.com — but to gather attendees for an upcoming community vision meeting in April.

“We need to raise awareness of Zanesville,” an item on one of the screens in the presentation said.

Huber said 400 postcards and 15 informational posters will be distributed to help get the word out about the survey.

The survey isn’t just for town residents, Huber added.

Some of the foundational information provided by the steering committee members answered questions such as, “What is great about living in Zanesville?” and “Define (Zanesville’s) quality of life.”

Input included it being a safe, close-knit community that is welcoming to new residents. It also has a “small town feel with big city appeal.”

The local school systems were cited as appealing, as well as low taxes and the potential for high-speed internet.

As for what’s missing in the town, the committee members suggested building an inclusive park, adding a place to get coffee, and improvements to the town’s municipal buildings.
