Southern Wells Community Schools recently had two flashing solar powered school safety signs installed on 300W to the north and south of the school’s campus.
This was a collaborative effort between the Wells County Commissioners, Wells County Council, Wells County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Wells County Highway Department.
Superintendent Brian Sloan said Southern Wells School Resource Officer Deputy Chad Bradley approached him some months back with the idea and from there the two of them began working together to see if there were any local government entities that wanted to partner with the school on the $3,465 cost of the two signs as well as looking for help with their installation.
“In the end, we were able to partner with the Wells County Commissioners office as they covered the cost of the two signs and the Wells County Highway Department installed the signs for us,” Sloan said. “We all saw the need to add additional safety signs as a way for motorists to know they were entering a school zone and adjust their speed accordingly to insure the safety of our students, staff and parents.”
Sloan added: “(I am) very thankful for all who helped bring this idea to reality and (am) especially thankful to Commissioner Vanover and Deputy Bradley for their work and efforts on the school’s behalf.”
