Ryan Mounsey

Ryan Mounsey has declared his intent to seek the Republican nomination for Wells County sheriff in the May 3 primary election.

Mounsey has been a full-time deputy with the sheriff’s department since 2003. Prior to that, he served as a reserve deputy starting in 2001. He has served 10 years as a field training officer for the department.

Mounsey is a 1996 graduate of Southern Wells High School and a 1998 graduate of Indiana University with an associate of science degree in criminal justice.

In a press release, Mounsey’s campaign stated,  “Ryan grew up on a hog, cattle, and grain farm in southern Wells County. His God-given interests and abilities attracted him to law enforcement as a way to serve others. He was also inspired by his great uncle Brooks Mounsey, who retired from the Indiana State Police and then later became sheriff of Wells County.”

Mounsey has been married for nearly 20 years to the former Lennie Huffman.  They  have five children and attend Roanoke Baptist Church as a family.

Mounsey is the brother of Ossian Police officer Russell Mounsey.

This isn’t new territory for Mounsey. He sought the Republican nomination for sheriff in 2010. He finished third behind the person who would eventually be elected sheriff, Monte Fisher, and behind David Fillers. Mounsey received 959 votes in that primary, or roughly 22 percent of the votes cast.

Mounsey will be facing incumbent sheriff Scott Holliday in the May 3 Republican primary. Holliday announced last week that he will be seeking a second term as sheriff.

“We have accomplished so many things these last three years but there is plenty more to get done,” Holliday said on social media.
