It was a sunny, but windy day for the Five Points School’s annual fall festival this year. Visitors could check out the restored school’s one room as well as climb the outside stairs to the one room museum that tells about the area’s history, including that of Grange 522 that met there. (The school was provided the land with the understanding that the second floor of the school would offer a place for the Grange members to meet.) In addition a number of antique cars were on display in the side yard while volunteers were serving a variety of food for a donation to the school’s maintenance fund. (Photos by Barbara Barbieri)

The building’s restored second floor offers not only history of the school but that of Grange 522, Indiana history and that of the area the school served.
Above, among the “pioneer” activities offered was stilt walking here under the tutoring eyes of Marilyn Maddox, at right, organizer of the games for children and adults. Visitors could learn to spin small gourds, use a slingshot and make noise spinners, button spinners and small rag dolls. Below, the shaded area on a vintage blackboard map indicates areas that were not yet states when the school was built in 1876. Fourth grade students in the area often are visitors to the school and the little museum.
