September teaches Christians to never take the  significance of the small for granted.

They only need to stroll down a country road between rows of yellowing corn — corn farmers will soon harvest thanks to the seeds they faithfully planted months ago.

And Christians too plant seeds each day. At least, they can when they faithfully labor like the farmer, trusting that God will bless that faithfulness with a harvest someday.

As the Apostle Paul told the Philippians, “work out your salvation.” Labor, he said, to harvest the seeds of the Spirit.

Yet Paul didn’t call for large, grandiose visions and schemes, for godliness, love, and joy thrive in the small and the simple, and they’re watered with the prayers of saints committing each day to God’s glory, regardless of the circumstances.

Verse 1

Once I wanted to appease this world’s ambitions

And satisfy my pride’s priorities

With faith that wanted little more than Heaven

‘Til I realized Jesus wanted more from me

Chorus

So I’m working on working out salvation

Learning how to live and love more like the Lord

Praying for His wisdom, faith, meekness, holiness, and grace

For I’ve found a life worth living for

Working on, working out salvation

More and more

Verse 2

I will never boast that I have earned the privilege

To serve the King and God I once betrayed

But through the cleansing blood and His forgiveness

The Spirit fills me and I’m born again

Chorus

So I’m working on working out salvation

Learning how to live and love more like the Lord

Praying for His wisdom, faith, meekness, holiness, and grace

For I’ve found a life worth living for

Working on, working out salvation

More and more

Verse 3

As golden gleams of dawn light up the morning

I pray each word and deed shines with Your light

To warm each heart and soul and give You glory

And fill the world with faithful fruits of life

Chorus

So I’m working on working out salvation

Learning how to live and love more like the Lord

Praying for His wisdom, faith, meekness, holiness, and grace

For I’ve found a life worth living for

Working on, working out salvation

More and more
