Raiders fall to Starfires on Senior Night
Southern Wells finished its regular season in track and field at home Thursday night.
The team honored its 10 seniors at the event: Malaina Culbertson, Ella Lahr, Natalyn Luckey, Tessa Maul, Emma Peterson, Karlee Warner, Andrew Aker, Joshua Bricker, Perrin Gates and Peyton Long.
The Raiders fell in both the boys and the girls meets to South Adams with the boys losing 86-37 and the girls 97-21.
Top finishers were:
Boys
• Kane Jenkins third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.61.
• Joshua Bricker first in the 3200m run with a time of 11:21.20.
• Peyton Long first in the shot put at 42-7.5.
• The 4x800m relay team third with a time of 10:02.0.
• Malaki Capper first in the 200m with a time of 25.00.
• Capper first in the high jump at 5-6.
• Capper first in the 100m dash with a time of 12.30.
• The 4x100m relay team second with a time of 48.69.
• Andrew Aker second in the 1600m with a time of 5:15.36 and Kelton Barr third at 5:15.60.
• Perrin Gates second in the discus at 115-6.
• The 4x400m relay team third with a time of 4:11.07.
• Jenkins second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.83 and Peyton Ellis third at 19.81.
Girls
• Sydney Alstoft third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 20.56.
• Kinley Allred third in the 200m with a time of 31.75.
• The 4x400m relay team second with a time of 5:23.12.
• Ella Lahr second in the 3200m run with a time of 16:33.80 and Chanie Mounsey third at 16:42.63.
• Ashlie Needler first in the shot put at 32-8.5 and Aubree Meyer second at 31-5.
• The 4x800m relay team second with a time of 14:20.44.
• The 4x100m relay team first. time was not listed.
• Allred third in the 100m with a time of 15.76.
• Dannicka Sorenson third in the 800m run with a time of 3:12.53.
• Karlee Warner second in the discus at 81-4.
• Andi Bryant third in the long jump at 11-5.75.
• Lexie Fiechter third in the 400m with a time of 1:13.84.
Southern Wells will be at the girls and boys sectional next week with the girls going first on Tuesday and the boys on Thursday. Both meets will take place at Marion High School and start at 5:30 p.m.
Raiders drop to Patriots in ACAC softball
Southern Wells fell 10-0 in its ACAC softball game on the road to Jay County Friday night.
With the loss, the Raiders drop to 4-14 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.
Emma Parks had the lone hit for the Raiders.
Kyah Thomas earned the loss, throwing 4.2 innings.
Southern Wells will be at Liberty Christian at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11.
Knights lose to Vikings in JV baseball
Norwell fell 9-5 at Huntington North in junior varsity baseball Friday night.
The Knights had eight hits in the game, two each from Cade Thornton and Nick McBride. Luke Ward had a double, and Josiah Ray had a two-RBI single. Trey Preivett and Adam Mehnensmith also had RBI.
Palmer Krug got the loss, throwing five innings and striking out seven.
