The one April Fool’s Day we all remember was in 1977 when our kids called all the family and announced that I had just delivered twin boys! This was still in the time when you did not know what sex your child would be and sometimes they did not expect there to be two.

Well, the kids really got fooled and Kenny and I did too when Dr. Gengerick announced “O my God, there’s another one!” Sure enough I delivered twin boys on April 18 to the shock of everyone. When Kenny called the kids they thought he was again kidding and so did the rest of the family and Jimmy, who was almost seven years old, thought we had to choose which one to bring home. He often teases that we should have left both of them. Jonathan and Jeremiah will be 47 on April 18.

This week, as you read this, a baby boy was born in this house on April 11, 1894. He was the first born of his mother Almissa Michael McBride and Dr. J.L. McBride. Almissa was born in this house and died in this house, never leaving it in 98 years.

The boy was my father Don McBride who was the first to help his grandfather Jonathan Michael farm the 100 acre farm just south of town that is now owned by the David McBrides and has been in the family since 1864.
