Tigers place 5th in tennis invite

Bluffton took fifth at the DeKalb Invitational in girls’ tennis on Saturday.

No. 1 doubles was the top group of the five, placing second. Emma Schwartz and Kinzie Fiecter defeated Snider 8-4, DeKalb 8-5 and lost to Northwood in the finals 8-2.

In No. 2 singles, Eve Corkwell went 1-2 for fourth place. Corkwell defeated Bellmont 8-4, and fell 8-0 to Westview and 9-8 (16-14 to Lakewood Park.

In No. 3 singles, Gretchen Crist went 1-2 in fourth place. Crist beat Lakewood Park 8-5, then fell 8-0 to Northwood and 8-6 to Westview.

In No. 2 doubles, Alexis Grover and Sophie Eisenhut finished in sixth place. The two lost to Westview 8-0, then won 8-3 over Northrop. Then, Avery Hunt and Emily Drayer came in and lost 8-4 to Snider in the final round.

In No. 1 singles, Hazel Pfister fell in her two matches. Pfister lost 8-2 to DeKalb and 8-4 to Lakewood Park.

Bluffton will be at Bellmont at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 29.

Raiders split in weekend baseball 

Southern Wells split their two baseball games at the Dylan Williams Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

In the first game, the Raiders won 4-1 over Cambridge City Lincoln 4-1.

The Raiders had two hits in the game, one a two-RBI single by Landon Johnson and the other an RBI single for Robby Freimuth.

Johnson got the win on the mound, tossing a complete seven innings and allowing one unearned run, one hit, one walk and hurled 14 strikeouts.

In Game 2, Southern Wells fell 12-2 to Union City.

The Raiders did not have stats available online at the time of print.

Southern Wells will be at Randolph Southern at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30.

Raiders fall twice in weekend softball

Southern Wells fell in both games of the Dylan Williams Memorial Tournament in softball on Saturday.

In Game 1, the Raiders fell 3-2 to Union City.

Emma Parks and Gracie Reeves had the lone hits for the team, both singles.

Maddy Sutton was charged with the loss.

In Game 2, Southern Wells fell 13-0 to Shenandoah.

Kaylea Coffel, Morgan Jones, Gracie Reeves and Collena Reeves had hits in the game.

Southern Wells will finish its regular season contest at home against Bluffton at 5 p.m. Monday, April 29. The game was 8-0 Tigers in the third inning before being postponed due to rain.
