I am snowed under with things to do in the next two weeks. It is also really cold today as I type this column and there is a little bit of snow left from yesterday (Nov. 27). That was our first snow of the season.

The Community Church of God’s Coffee Cafe is still open on weekdays from 7:30 to 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

The family of Terry Bowman invites you to an open house at the Tower Life Center Church on Wayne Street in honor of his 90th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Zanesville Lions Club is selling wreaths for $5 each to help with the cash prizes we give to the winners of the Christmas Lighting Contest. If you want to be judged you need to have your display lights on Sunday evening, Dec. 17, so we can get a picture. We will then send the judges out on Monday, Dec. 18, right after the Lions community Christmas party at the Lions Park. The party is for all and will feature free food, treats and pictures with Santa and then you can stay for free bingo. Party time is 6:30 p.m. Hopefully we will have some apple dumplings ready for sale.

Just maybe I will have time to change the free library over to Christmas books. Remember the books are free as we want to get everyone back to reading books. The outside door to the free library is open 24/7.

Thanks to Lions Larry Herron, Robin Phillips, and Melba Edwards, and volunteers Steve Kumfer, John and Eileen Schuhmacher who made the trip over to Ouabache State Park to set up our Lions Club display that is just a few sites past the Zanesville Tower Life Center’s on the right side of the street. Getting all the scenes together takes lots of time and work. Please come on over and support Ouabache Friends as your $5 a car entry fee goes for improvements to your State Park. The lights will be on from 6 to 9 p.m. every evening through Dec. 31.

Letters to Santa may be mailed in the mailbox by the gatehouse through Dec. 18, with replies if a stamped, self addressed envelope is included. Don’t forget to view the fire tower light show and the herd of white (wooden) bison under it!

Don’t forget to come and see the wonderful “Living Lights” display in the Tower Life Center Church parking lot. You need not get out of your vehicle. You just turn your radio on and enjoy the music as the lights dance to it. There are also Christmas readings during the production. There is no charge and you may enjoy the hot chocolate and cookies delivered to your vehicle. If you would like, you may help with this wonderful Christmas presentation with a monetary donation to the Tower Life Center, P.O. Box 4, Zanesville, IN 46799. Note on your check that the donation is for Living Lights. The lights come on every evening at 5:30 Sunday through Thursday they turn off at 9:30 and on Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. The lights will operate through Jan. 1.
