Two people are in the hospital after a van collided with a horse-drawn buggy on Ind. 124 late Wednesday night.

At approximately 9:20 p.m., the Adams County Dispatch center received a 911 call in reference to a personal injury accident. It was found that a buggy driven by Harvey C. Schwartz, 65, of rural Monroe, was traveling southbound on Adams County Road 650 East. Schwartz stated that as he approached the intersection of Ind. 124, he saw a van approaching from the west but thought he could make it through the intersection in time.

As a result of the collision, both Schwartz and his wife, Lydia Mae Schwartz, 64, were both injured and transported by Adams EMS to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The van driver, Ricardo Flores of Fort Wayne, refused medical attention at the scene.  Both the van and buggy had to be towed from the scene.

Adams County deputies, the Indiana State Police, Monroe Fire and Adams County EMS all responded to the scene.
