A group of concerned citizens from the Sandalwood subdivision voiced concerns with a lack of communication surrounding construction projects to the Ossian Town Council on Monday evening.
Sharon Henderson, who lives on Woodcreek Drive, spoke on behalf of herself and other residents who have been negatively impacted by the construction in the housing division. Henderson thanked Jim Breckler with Engineering for his work and asked him to explain the details of the project.
Breckler pulled out a blueprint and joined the group at the table.
“The project involves reconstruction of the asphalt, and it involves new sidewalk to connect it to the sidewalk on Greenwood trail,” Breckler explained each area of work while he pointed to the specific place he referenced on the blueprint. “All that being said, some people voiced a preference of the sidewalk being located over here. We talked to INDOT, they did approve it but there would be an additional $4,000, a little added cost.”
One resident told the council she had not received any mail since the construction began. Another resident voiced her difficulty with accessing her home due to being disabled. Breckler clarified additional confusion around trash pickup, package deliveries, and parking in driveways. The main concern from the group was the lack of communication from the town.
“I think that we would all like the sidewalk and the curb by the road, that settles a lot of our concerns,” one resident said. “Another thing we wanted to voice was the lack of communication. No-one instructed us until Brooks gave us a flier.”
During the meeting, the town council unanimously approved an increase of up to $4,000 for the requested adjustments to the project. The council also approved a motion to pay Brooks Construction for their work on this project in the amount of $472,598.64.
