Ouabache State Park’s naturalists Bret Dausch, left, and Rose Nevil presented a program about the park’s “fluffy cows” (the bison) at the recent Lunch and Learn presentation at the Lodge by the Lake. The lunchers were able to inspect a bison horn, which does not regenerate if lost, and watch a video of how high in the air they can leap (six feet). (Photos by Barbara Barbieri)
Following the program at the lodge those attending were invited to a bison feeding at the park’s bison pen. The six resident bison (three male and three female including last year’s calf) eagerly dined on the special feed offered them by Dausch and Nevil. The oldest female directed the feeding order as she allowed the oldest male to be the first to eat.
