Today at Pickett’s Run Park, we will discover who the Fastest Kid in Town is. Kids aged 3-12 will compete in either the 100 or 50-meter sprint in 5 age categories. Medals for the fastest 3 boys and girls in each age group will be awarded. Winners will then “Race Off” after the competition for the “Ultimate Fastest Kid in Town” award. All participants receive a medal for their effort. Snacks and Bubble Machine Fun at the Splash Pad after the races. The cost is only $5, and race day registration begins at 8 a.m. and races start at 9 a.m. 

Now that we are in July, the City Gym Membership drops $20 for anyone who wants to purchase a key to use the facility until the end of the year. Single members pay only $40, and a family membership is just $60. It’s a great time to get healthy at a very affordable price. 

If you prefer to get your exercise in the water, make sure to take advantage of the Wells Community Pool. Lap Swim runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12-12:50 p.m., and Water Aerobics is on Tuesdays from 12-12:50 p.m. The pool still has openings for private swim lessons; call 824-1550 to schedule. 

Attention Kayakers, the Northeast Indiana Water Trails Group will host a Paddle Social on the Wabash River from Vera Cruz to White Bridge. This paddle is approximately 6 miles long and will take around 2 hours to complete. These socials are a great opportunity to paddle with a community of other river lovers and find a new paddle partner for future adventures.

They will offer shuttle service but only for a limited number, so if you cannot stage your own vehicle, contact them at neiwatertrails@gmail.com to reserve your space in the van soon.

They will put in the water at 6 p.m. sharp. If you are utilizing the shuttle, please plan to drop your boat at the Vera Cruz launch at 5:30 p.m., and then park at the White Bridge launch (closest address is 4350 E River Rd, Bluffton) to be picked up for transport back to the put-in at 5:45 p.m. sharp.

Free Summer Dance and Tumbling classes will be held at ABC Studio and Activity Center located at 1169 N. Main St., Suite 1, from 5:30-6 p.m. on the following dates:

Jazz Workshop – July 12 Ages 4yrs and up. Bring Jazz/Ballet shoes or socks. 

Ballet Workshop –July 19 Ages 4yrs and up. Bring ballet shoes or socks. 

Tumble – July 25 Ages 4-7 years. Please wear tight-fitting clothes and your hair up. 

Lyrical Workshop – July 26 Ages 4yrs and up. 

Tumble – July 27 Ages 8-15yrs. Please wear tight-fitting clothes and your hair up. 

Clogging Workshop – Aug. 9 Ages 4yrs and up. Bring clogging shoes; we will have some to try. 

Tap Workshop –Aug. 16 Ages 4yrs and up. Bring tap shoes or hard sole sneakers. 

Hip Hop Workshop – Aug. 23 Ages 4yrs and up. Wear sneakers.
