Is it just me, or does it seem like June is flying by? Baseball will be wrapping up soon, and the 4th of July is right around the corner. Speaking of the upcoming holiday, celebrate the 4th of July with the City of Bluffton and Wells County. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. (Rain date for this event is July 5, if needed) As a reminder, personal fireworks are not allowed in any city park.

We usually start getting phone calls each year about when fireworks can be used, so I wanted to share the City Code.

If you haven’t heard, we moved the Iron Kid triathlon to July 22 to give kids more time to sign up. In the meantime, we are now offering the Superhero Fun Run & Obstacle Course as a free event on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m. Distances will be either 1 mile or 5K, ending with an obstacle course that includes climbing walls, balance beams, crawling challenges, and an inflatable course. Fun prizes and giveaways. Check-in opens at 6:00 p.m. on July 29 at Pickett’s Run Park.

Make a full day of fun and stay for the Light up the Night Bike Ride evening event. Strap some lights to your bike, skates, scooters, strollers, wheelchairs, or other rolling transportation devices, and join us on Thursday, June 29 at 9 p.m. for a leisurely nighttime ride along the Wabash River. Prizes will be awarded for the best light display. Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. The ride starts at Pickett’s Run Park (400 block of E Washington Street) at 9:15 p.m.

If your child is good at building, they will want to take advantage of the Paper Skyscraper Challenge. Youth ages 7-18 can try to see who can construct the tallest building by folding, taping, and stacking paper. This FREE event will be held on Thursday, June 29, in the Bluffton City Gym from 2-3 p.m. All supplies are provided for this drop-in event. Adults are welcome to stay and help the children. Last year they got so tall we had to get ladders out to reach the top.
