Happy National Ballpoint Pen Day.

Hungarian inventor Laszlo Biro patented the pen in Argentina on this day 80 years ago, and while it didn’t revolutionize the written word like Gutenberg’s printing press, it certainly liberated writers from sloppy fountain pens.

But for those of a less literary persuasion (those people who watch the movies instead of reading the books … You know who you are), they can celebrate National Eggroll Day. Little girls can celebrate Doll Day. My aunt Elaine might particularly enjoy Worldwide Knit in Public Day. Perhaps KFC managers can offer discounts in honor of National Herbs and Spices Day. (Actually, they probably celebrate it on the 11th.)

Unfortunately, Americans will need to wait almost a year to again celebrate Donald Duck Day, which commemorates the creation of one of Walt Disney’s most-famous characters on June 9, 1934.

Tragically, none of these occasions have secured true “National” status. No president has ever signed a proclamation for them. Congress has never passed a law celebrating them.

Then again, the world in general often uses, at best, questionable standards and priorities for its celebrations and commemorations.

More importantly, Christians don’t need an official to celebrate a day. They don’t even need a holiday — dubious or not.

When they commit to fulfill God’s will and bring about His Kingdom, they can celebrate when they go to bed each night, even if the world doesn’t notice — and doesn’t care.

Perhaps Christians won’t even notice any reasons to celebrate, but God notices.

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him,” the author of 2 Chronicles writes.

When Christians redeem each day through simple and seemingly small moments of faith, they turn that day into the best day possible. They turn it into a Kingdom-come day.

Verse 1:

I wake up each morning

With so much still to do

So many opportunities

I could pursue

But I must remember

To always stop and pray

And ask God to make it

A Kingdom-come day

Chorus:

O make it a Kingdom-come day

(Kingdom-come day)

O make it a Kingdom-come day

(Father, I pray)

Working out salvation through the Spirit and grace

To make it a Kingdom-come Day

Verse 2:

Jesus once preached

On the Kingdom of God

He said that those who do His will

Builds on the Rock

So I’ll seek to live like

My Lord in every way

And redeem each moment

In my Kingdom-come day

Verse 3

So lay up your treasures

And lay down your life

In holiness and purity

Don’t compromise

The faithful who follow

Their King will hear Him say,

“Well done, blessed servant”

On that Kingdom-come day
