Raiders 6th in Bi-County golf

Teams from Wells and Adams county’s met up at Wabash Valley Golf Course Saturday for the Bi-County golf meet.

Bellmont was the champion, shooting a 322 on the day, followed by Norwell with a 327 and Bluffton with a 339.

Adams Central and South Adams finished fourth and fifth, shooting a 357 and 369, and Southern Wells was sixth with a 411.

Winston Brown of Bellmont was the medalist, scoring a 71.

Norwell’s top golfer was Cooper Sloan, who shot a 76 and was third-best at the event. Following Sloan for the Knights was Ethan Ottinger with a 79 in sixth place, Chase Hulvey 85 in seventh place, Derek Smith 87, and Bodie Zimmer 93.

Bluffton’s top scorer was Ephraim Frauhiger, who shot a 77 and earned fourth place. Following Frauhiger for the Tigers was Keegan Schwartz with a 78 in fifth place, Kade Abbett 89, and Declan Grieser and Connor Klopfenstein 95s.

Southern Wells’s top golfer was Bailey Couch, who shot a 101 and was 26th at the event. Following Couch for the Raiders were Gabe McElhaney and Chandler Oswalt with 102s, Tristen Worster 106, and Quinton Mullins 112.

Norwell’s next match will be at East Noble starting at 5:15 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Bluffton’s next match will be at Northfield starting at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Southern Wells’ next match will be at Jay County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.

Raiders rout Owls 

in baseball

The Southern Wells baseball team made the road trip to Muncie and won over Muncie Burris 21-3.

Jenson Nusbaumer and Kedrik Sonnigsen led the team with four hits each. Nusbaumer had two doubles and an RBI, while Sonnigsen had a triple and three RBIs.

Bryar Gearheart added two doubles with his three hits, driving in three runs. Wyatt Yoder and Rugar Holmes tallied two-hit games as well.

Yoder got the win throwing three innings, allowing one unearned run, and struck out three. Carsen Smith, Gearheart, Sonigsen, and Holmes all threw one inning each and allowed two runs between all four pitchers.

Southern Wells will host Daleville starting at 5 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Knights split doubleheader with Patriots in softball

Norwell’s softball team split a doubleheader with Heritage Saturday.

In Game 1, the Knights (9-7) won 11-1 and were led by the 4-for-4 efforts by Delaney Connett in the leadoff spot, adding a double and two runs scored in the game.

Leah Werling added two hits and two RBIs, and Alyssa Krinn had two hits and three RBIs.

Kayla Watkins threw five innings in a complete-game, one-run-allowed start. She struck out two and allowed six hits.

In Game 2, Norwell lost 6-4 and only mustered four hits in the game. Makayla Young led the way with two RBIs, and Jordan Markley hit a two-run home rum.

Sami Lemler got the loss with six innings of work, allowing six runs (two earned), four strikeouts, and no walks.

Norwell will play DeKalb next at 5 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Knights finish third in Angola girls’ tennis Invite

Norwell’s girls’ tennis team competed at the Tony Wright Memorial Invitational in Angola on Saturday.

In an individual bracket-style format, the Knights placed second behind Fairfield, who had every team in the finals.

Results:

• Addy Heyerly in No. 1 singles, second place. Won 6-4, 6-3 against Bishop Luers, 6-0, 6-0 against Angola, and lost 6-0, 6-0 to Fairfield.

• McKenna McNabb in No. 2 singles, fifth place. Lost 6-0, 2-6, 10-5 to Northridge, won 8-0 over Angola and won 8-4 over Blackhawk Christian.

• Delaney Hoover in No. 3 singles, third place. Won 6-1, 6-0 over Angola, lost 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 to Northridge, and won 8-4 over Valparaiso.

• Annabelle Johnson and Macy Felger, in No. 1 doubles, second place. Won 6-1, 6-1 over Blackhawk Christian, won 6-2, 6-3 over Angola, and lost 7-6(6), 6-2 against Fairfield.

• Jordyn Xayyachack and Idoia Ochoa in No. 2 doubles, second place. Won 6-4, 6-2 over Valparaiso, won 6-0, 7-6(3) over Northridge, and lost 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 to Fairfield.

Norwell will host New Haven at 5 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Knights rout Spartans in junior varsity softball

The Norwell softball team won in a rout over Homestead on the road Friday 20-3.

Of the 17 hits, Angie Rogers had four of them, including a double and four RBIs. Kayla Watkins also had four hits, including a home run and five RBIs.

Hayden Herman, Abby Wagner, and Alyssa Krinn had two hits.

Kara Brown earned the win, throwing two innings of scoreless softball and, one hit, two strikeouts. Wagner threw three innings in relief and allowed three runs.

Norwell will be at DeKalb at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Knights fall in MS golf

The Norwell middle school golf team traveled to Columbia City to face Indian Springs.

The Knights lost 192-214.

Leading scorers for the Knights were Isaiah Geoglein with a 47, Eli Sonnigson with a 53, and Emma Burnau with a 54.
