PONETO — The Southern Wells and Southwood softball game didn’t get past the top of the fourth inning as rain puddled the field and was eventually called off. The game ended at 2-0 in favor of the Knights.
Before the game was called off, the Raiders starting pitcher Kyah Thomas was throwing a solid game, stranding runners at third base in back-to-back innings before allowing two runs to come through.
The Raiders, in the previous inning, were starting to hit the ball after struggling up until that point but did not score.
After a discussion with the senior players, head coach Jason Riley decided to honor the senior class with all the parents in attendance. The team gathered in the high school’s cafeteria while wrestling coach Jacob Duncan read through introductions.
The six seniors, Hannah Duncan, Kayleigh Jones, Raigen Tarr, Jadyn Yencer, Ella Rockwell, and manager Emily Scott received gifts and enjoyed a cake afterward with the rest of the team and coaching staff.
Southern Wells will have another crack at a home game at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13.
