Knights sweep Vikings in track

The Norwell boys’ and girls’ track teams hosted Huntington North and won easily Tuesday.

The boys’ team won by a team score of 74-13, while the girls won 59-21.

Event winners for the boys were:

• Winston Frauhiger in the 400m with a time of 58.6 and in the high jump with a jump of 6-4.

• Kyle Zeddis in the discus with a throw of 132-9 and in the shot put with a throw of 42-5 1/2.

• Jake Parker in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.2.

• Trevon Stoppenhagen in the 100m with a time of 10.6.

• Zach Waldman in the 800m with a time of 2:05.5 and in the 1600m with a time of 5:08.9.

• Smith in the 200m with a time of 24 seconds.

• Gavin Threewits in the 3200m with a time of 11:09.5.

• The 4x800m team with a time of 9:10.5. Names were not listed.

• The 4x100m team with a time of 46.7. Names were not listed.

Knights’ boys’ golf defeats Bulldogs

The Norwell boys’ golf team hosted New Haven and won Tuesday.

The Knights won by a team score of 171-246.

Derek Smith and  Ashton Federspiel led the way shooting a 42. Following the top guys were Cooper Sloan with a 43, Ethan Ottinger 44, and Chase Hulvey 45.

The junior varsity had one golfer, Phil Gaier, who shot a 51.

Norwell will host DeKalb at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5.  

Raider boys finish first, girls fall to Wildcats in track

The Southern Wells boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Whitko for the final regular season track meet of the season Tuesday.

The boys finished first, scoring 80 points to Whitko’s 41. The girls were second with a final team score of 68-44.

Event winners for the boys:

• Potter Garrett, Joshua Bricker, Andrew Aker, and Miles Garrett in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:06.

• Kane Jenkins in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.81 and in the 300im with a time of 47.56.

• Garrett in the 1600m with a time of 4:56 and in the 800m with a time of 2:07.72.

• Aiden Brewster, Peyton Ellis, Jenkins, and Nick Lozoya in the 4x100m relay team with a time of 47.91.

• Colter Kiel in the 3200m with a time of 11:40.13.

• Nick Lozoya in the high jump with a jump of 5-2.

• Peyton Long in the shot put with a throw of 42-1.

Event winners for the girls.

• Sydney Alstoft in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.19.

• Brianna Hughett, Audriana Stuller, Alstoft, and Zoey Solga in the 4x100m relay team with a time of 55.71.

• Tessa Maul, Lexie Fiechter, Adeline Sabinske, and Eve McMillian in the 4x400m relay, time not listed.

• Brooke Tonner in the high jump with a jump of 5-2.

The girls’ team will be at the sectional next starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Tigers boys first, girls third in track

The Bluffton boys’ and girls’ track teams hosted Senior Night in a three-team meet with Heritage and South Adams Tuesday.

The boys’ team won by a team score of 69, Heritage second with 50, and South Adams third with 37.

The girls placed third with a score of 28. Heritage won with 74 points and South Adams second with 50.

Times were not given with the results.

Individual winners for the boys:

• Khamel Moore in the 100m and in the long jump.

• Brent Kuhlenbeck in the 800m.

• Drew Hunt in the 300m hurdles.

• Haley Gibson third in the 100m second in the long jump.

• Lauren Reiff second in the high jump, second in the shot put, and first in the discus and broke the school’s record with a throw of 141-2.

Bluffton’s girls’ team will be at the section next starting at 5:30 p.m.Tuesday, May 16, at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Knights sweep DeKalb in girls’ tennis

The Norwell girls’ tennis team swept DeKalb on Tuesday.

Results for varsity:

• Addy Heyerly defeated Sophie Pfister 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.

• McKenna McNabb defeated Lainy Newbauer 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles.

• Delaney Hoover defeated Sydney Shambaugh 6-0, 6-2 in No. 3 singles.

• Annabelle Johnson and Macy Felger defeated Kenlee Dick and Maddie Hickman 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles.

• Jordyn Xayyachack and Idoia Ochoa defeated Evie Pepple and Katelynne Hartsough 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.

The junior varsity team also won 10-0.

Norwell defeats DeKalb in baseball

Norwell’s baseball team defeated DeKalb at home Tuesday 7-4.

Trey Bodenheimer led the team with three hits, hitting a home run and driving four of the Knights’ seven runs. Luke Graft also had a multi-hit game with a double and an RBI.

Drew Graft had a double, and a run scored.

Curtis Ellis earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing four runs, and struck out six. Lleyton Bailey threw two scoreless innings.

Norwell will be at Snider at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Tigers fall to Heritage in softball

The Bluffton softball team as shut out 7-0 at Heritage Tuesday.

Of the four hits, Isabella Stout had the lone extra-base hit with a double.

Aver Petty earned the loss.

Bluffton will host Norwell starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

Knights rout Bulldogs in softball

The Norwell softball team traveled to New Haven in a 14-7 rout over the Bulldogs.

The Knights tallied 20 hits, led by Emma Bailey’s four-hit game.

Delaney Connett, Reese Frauhiger, and Leah Werling all had three-hit games. Frauhiger and Werling had doubles.

Elle Misch and Frauhiger hit home runs in the game.

Madyson Sonnigsen got the win, throwing five innings and allowing seven runs while striking out five. Sami Lemler had two scoreless innings in relief.

Norwell will host Huntington North at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Tigers shut out by Patriots in baseball

The Bluffton baseball team lost to the No. 1 team in the ACAC Heritage on the road Tuesday 5-0.

The Tigers had four hits in the game. Braxton Betancourt, Drew Pressler, Austin Lewis, and Brody Lewis had the hits.

Betancourt got the loss, throwing four innings, allowing five runs, and struck out four.

Bluffton will host Angola at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Raiders defeated by Patriots in boys’ golf

The Southern Wells boys’ golf team fell at Jay County on the road 171-185 Tuesday.

The leading scorer for the Raiders was Quinton Mullins with a 42. Following him were Chandler Oswalt and Gabe McElhaney with 47s and Bailey Couch with a 49.

Southern Wells will be at Eastbrook at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

Knights junior varisty softball team defeats Bishop Dwenger

The Norwell junior varsity softball team defeated Bishop Dwenger 16-5 on the road Tuesday.

Of the 13 hits, the Knights were led by Abby Wagner with four hits, including a double. Hayden Herman, Alyssa Krinn, and Madison Mashuda all had two-hit games. Krinn had a home run.

Carlie Fausz earned the win throwing five innings, allowing five runs, and striking out six.

Norwell will be at Huntington North at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Knights drop close game to DeKalb in junior varsity baseball

The Norwell junior varsity baseball team was defeated at DeKalb 6-5 Tuesday.

The Knights managed five hits in the game, two of them going to Max Babcock who led the team. Luke Ward and Ryne Thornton had one RBI each.

Noah Schamerloh got the loss, throwing six 1/3 innings, allowing six runs a struck out eight.

Norwell will host Concordia at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10.

Knights MS soccer teams fall to Paul Harding

The Norwell boys’and girls’ middle school soccer teams fell to Paul Harding Tuesday.

The boys’ team lost 4-1 with the lone gone was scored by Elias Musselman.

The girls’ team lost 2-0.

Norwell will host the NE8 tournament next at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 to play the winner of Huntington Riverview and Paul Harding.
