The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors celebrated with a Ribbon Cutting for the new installation of an ice and water machine in Ossian, owned by Preston Kaehr, called Ice King Indiana. The machine is located at 1012 Dehner Drive in Ossian.
Kaehr explained that this type of ice and water machine are very popular in the southern part of the country and making their way north. “I purchased the machine from Georgia, which was designed for my specifications and the size I wanted. Once the machine was completed, it was my job to install it here in Ossian.”
Upon City approval and finding a location to lease, Kaehr started preparing the space with a concrete pad for the unit to set on. In addition, trenching for the installation of water and electrical lines had to be completed. “Overall, it took me about eight weeks to get everything prepared for the machine to be placed to get up and running,” said Kaehr.
Kaehr’s goal was to find a source of income that would not take a lot of time and something he could have the family be a part of in the future. ‘I am excited to bring a product that offers high quality water and ice to local citizens. The water that comes into the machine is 40 times purer and more filtered than city tap water. The water and ice are fresh, pure, and affordable. I think this will be a good fit for our community.”
Ice King Indiana offers 10- and 20-pound bags of ice and up to 5 gallons of purified water. Water is brought up inside the machine, which processes through four different filters such as sediment, carbon, ultraviolet, and then reverse osmosis. The purified water is then stored and is pumped either to the icemaker or for water distribution. The machine has the capability of accepting cash and credit cards.
“The machine should never run out of ice because it holds 1,500 pounds of ice and creates more every 24 hours, if needed,” explained Kaehr. “With the entire process, it is never touched by human hands. Very pure and very affordable.”
Ice King Indiana is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
