“I am so very proud of the kids and their coaches,” said Rick Mettler, the principal at BHMS. “Laura Xayyachack and I shared a vision four years ago, and to see that vision grow stronger each year should be very gratifying for every student and coach who has made it happen.”

The first BHMS team competed in 2017-2018. The coaches are excited about the students’ performances.

“This is the best we’ve done overall since we started,” said social studies teacher Carla Alspaugh,

Coaches are Xayyachack (English), Alspaugh (social studies), Elizabeth Claghorn (math) and Amy Gerber (science).

The team captains — eighth graders Gabriel Spencer (math), Audrey Gerber (science), Elliott Brown (English) and Alexandria Koby (social studies) — will be featured on the May episode of the Roar Report podcast to talk about their experiences
