Our world seems to be overwhelmed with appeals by individuals trying to sell us things: a weight-loss program, make-up, clothing, health supplements, and more. According to every sales pitch, their product is the best one to ever have been invented and the rest of us simply must try it.
I’m not a salesperson, nor do I appreciate the “salesman mentality.” My nature has never been one that enjoys dramatic presentations or exaggerated claims about a specific commodity. I prefer the quiet, thoughtful approach that allows me time to consider all the options and evaluate testimonials from several trusted friends.
I like to imagine that Jesus was the same way.
Jesus could have displayed miracle after miracle after miracle, wowing the crowds with fire from heaven, food delivered by angels carrying golden baskets, or walking through graveyards calling each dead soul back to life, but He didn’t. While He performed miracles of healing, provided food for hungry men and women, and helped his fishing friends haul in their best catch ever, most of the time He worked one-on-one, quietly, touching individual lives with love and hope and the most accurate representation of His Father that they would ever see.
And it didn’t stop there. Jesus led by example in such a way that even the men He singled out adopted His way of initiating contact. In the book of John, John the Baptist, Andrew, and finally Phillip introduced friends and family members to Jesus as the Messiah. The Samaritan woman invited her local community to the well. Every individual either pointed Him out during a social event or spoke of Him later in quiet conversation, urging others to, “Come and see!” Through their testimonies and introductions to Jesus, neighborhoods, small towns, and eventually, the world was changed.
Easter is the perfect time to share your own personal story of God’s work in your life. It is not necessary to have an earth-shattering experience. All it takes is the simple appeal to come and see the One Who has made all the difference to you.
Come and see. He’s real. He’s alive. And He’s definitely worth knowing!
